NDSU FOOTBALL

 

FARGO, N.D. (NDSU) – North Dakota State had five players named to the Associated Press FCS All-America Team announced Tuesday. NDSU left tackle Cody Mauch, left guard Nash Jensen and defensive end Spencer Waege were named to the first team. Fullback Hunter Luepke made the second team as an all-purpose player, and safety Michael Tutsie was named to the third team. This is Jensen’s first career All-America honor. He was named to the HERO Sports FCS all-sophomore team in 2019. Luepke, Mauch and Waege previously were named to the HERO Sports FCS All-America Team. Tutsie earned his first All-America honor of the season after earning All-America honors last year on the HERO Sports first team and Stats Perform third team.

 

No. 3 seed North Dakota State (11-2) is scheduled to host No. 7 seed Incarnate Word (12-1) in the semifinals of the NCAA Division I Football Championship at 6 p.m. Friday at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.

WOLVES-CLIPPERS

 

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kawhi Leonard scored 19 points, Paul George had a triple-double and the Los Angeles Clippers rallied to beat the undermanned Minnesota Timberwolves 99-88 on Wednesday night for their third straight victory. George had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Luke Kennard added season highs of 16 points and four 3-pointers as six Clippers scored in double figures. Coming off a 20-point victory over the NBA-leading Boston Celtics on Monday, the Clippers started out cold. They missed 13 of their first 15 shots and it wasn’t until the third that they shot over 30% from the floor. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 19 points while in foul trouble. Rudy Gobert had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

WILD-RED WINGS

 

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Frederick Gaudreau scored twice, including a long-distance empty netter, and Matt Dumba notched his third goal of the season as the Minnesota Wild won 4-1 on Wednesday over the visiting Detroit Red Wings. Filip Gustavsson made 16 saves in net for Minnesota to improve his record to 6-4-1. Mats Zuccarello extended his point streak to eight games with a second-period goal for the Wild, who earned their third straight win. Wednesday’s loss was the fourth in a row for Detroit.

VIKINGS-DEFENSE

 

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The calmness and optimism Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Ed Donatell pours into the job has not publicly wavered amid persistent struggles for his group. The pass defense hasn’t held up nearly that well. The Vikings have allowed 1,678 yards through the air over the past five games. They’ve been done in by a devastating combination of an inactive rush and a soft coverage. They’ve fallen to last in the league in total yards allowed per game, passing yards allowed per game and passing yards per play. The Vikings are 10-3. They host Indianapolis this week.
