TWINS-WHITE SOX

CHICAGO (AP) — Kyle Farmer hit a two-run homer to cap Minnesota’s four-run seventh inning, Kenta Maeda threw seven strong innings and the Twins routed the Chicago White Sox 10-2 on Thursday night. Rookies Edouard Julien and Royce Lewis hit solo shots in the fourth to get the Twins rolling and help first-place Minnesota (77-70) extend its lead in the AL Central to eight games over idle Cleveland. Matt Wallner, another Twins rookie, drove in two runs with a single in the seventh break to break open a tight game. Alex Kirilloff added two RBIs on his second hit of the night as the Twins tacked on four unearned runs in the ninth. The 35-year-old Maeda (5-7) allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked one. The veteran right-hander from Japan matched his season-high in innings and threw 105 pitches, the most after missing the 2022 season after Tommy John surgery. Josh Winder pitched the eighth, and Brent Headrick worked around Eloy Jiménez’s double in the ninth. José Ureña (0-6) limited the Twins to two runs and three hits until the seventh. The right-hander made his second start for the White Sox after signing a minor league free-agent deal in August. For the night, however, Ureña was tagged with six runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked none.

VIKINGS-EAGLES

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Hurts ran for a pair of 1-yard touchdowns and threw a 63-yard TD pass to DeVonta Smith, D’Andre Swift ran for 175 yards and a score, and the Eagles (2-0) held off the turnover-prone Minnesota Vikings 34-28 on Thursday night. Hurts finished 18 of 23 for 193 yards — mostly to Smith, who also hauled in a 54-yard catch. He finished with 131 yards on four receptions. Minnesota (0-2), which had three first-half turnovers in a season-opening loss to Tampa Bay, lost three fumbles in the first half in Philly and four overall. In perhaps the most deflating moment for the Vikings, Justin Jefferson fumbled a 30-yard catch into the end zone and out of bounds for a touchback with Minnesota trailing 10-7 in the second quarter. Kirk Cousins threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns, two to T.J. Hockenson. Jefferson had 11 catches for 159 yards. Jake Elliott kicked a pair of field goals for the Eagles, including a 61-yarder to conclude the first half after Jefferson’s fumble.
