MINOTAUROS
BLAINE, MN (NAHL.COM) – The #2-seed Minot Minotauros played the #3-seed Maryland Black Bears in the semifinals of the Robertson Cup Playoffs on Friday night in Blaine, Minnesota The Black Bears came out hot in the first period adding three unanswered in under two minutes. Luke Janus (5:11) got the scoring going for Maryland. Less than a minute later, Jeremi Tremblay (6:07) made it a 2-0 game, and then Dimitry Kebreau (6:30) making it a 3-0 game. Minot found the back of the net with Nicholas Sewecke (13:11) for a 1-0 score. The Black Bears scored to make it a 4-1 game with Dimitry Kebreau (13:43) netting his second of the night. Nearing the end of the period, Jack O’Hanisain (18:21) scored for the Tauros, ending the period with a score of 4-2. In the second period, Luke Janus (5:12) picked up his second goal of the night for a 5-2 Maryland lead. Minot answered back quickly with Trevor Stachowiak (5:49) scoring to get the Tauros on the scoresheet again, 5-3. There were no goals scored in the third period as the Black Bears won game one, 7-3. Maryland goaltender Owen Lepak was fantastic in net as he stopped 25 shots on goal. Game two in the best-of-three series is tonight at 7:30 PM in Blaine.

MINOT STATE-HALL OF FAME
MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – Minot State Athletics is honored to present its Hall of Fame Class of 2024, all of whom will be inducted this coming September during Homecoming. Joining more than 200 current members of the Minot State Athletic Hall of Fame will be former star Beaver student-athletes in football player Bart Archdekin, women’s basketball player Jennifer (Sundahl) Becker, baseball player Joe Engler, cross country and track runner Nolan Taylor, and track & field jumper Tina Kirkpatrick, along with Special Achievement Award honoree Robert Sando, and the 1972-73 Beaver men’s wrestling team. The Class of 2024 will be inducted into the Minot State Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 13, in a special ceremony at 5 p.m. at the Sleep Inn & Suites in Minot. The Class of 2024 also will be special guests at the Minot State Homecoming parade on Saturday, September 14, starting at 11 a.m., and will be honored at halftime of the Beavers’ Homecoming game that day with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. against Northern State at First Western Bank Field at Herb Parker Stadium.

UND MENS BASKETBALL
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND) – University of North Dakota head men’s basketball coach Paul Sather announced on Thursday that Greyson Uelmen has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the Fighting Hawks beginning in the 2024-25 season. Uelmen starred for Minnetonka High School during his senior season, pacing the Skippers with just over 20 points per game while shooting .569 from the field and .500 from distance. He helped lead Minnetonka to the Minnesota 4A title, the first for the Skippers since 2008, by averaging 17 points, five boards, two assists and 1.5 steals per game in the state tournament. The 6-foot-2 guard had his breakout game in February against eventual Class 3A champion Totino-Grace, pouring in 31 points to lead the Skippers to victory. He finished with 16 games with at least 20 points last season and two with 30-plus. Uelmen is the fourth roster addition announced by North Dakota since the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, joining fellow guards Reggie Thomas and Mier Panoam as well as forward Dariyus Woodson.

UND HOCKEY
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND) – The University of North Dakota can once again boast the title of best fans in college hockey, as the program once again paced the country in multiple attendance categories. For the 10th straight year, UND and Ralph Engelstad Arena led the nation in average attendance with a total of 11,612 per game while also sitting atop the total attendance number for the 13th straight year with 278,677 total fans. UND was one of only six programs to average at over 100 percent capacity, finishing with 20 sellout crowds in 24 home contests. The 278,677 total attendance number is the fifth highest in NCAA history and the highest in Ralph Engelstad Arena history since the building opened in 2001-02. It was also a dominant season on home ice for NoDak, finishing with a 19-4-1 mark and included zero regulation losses in the 2024 calendar year. Not only was the 11,612 average attendance number the highest in college hockey, it also ranks 38th in the entire world for hockey – sitting behind 31 NHL franchises and six professional European clubs.

NDSU MENS BASKETBALL
FARGO, N.D. (NDSU) – The North Dakota State men’s basketball program has added transfer forward Patrick Bath, NDSU head coach David Richman announced Friday. Bath comes to NDSU from Drake University, where he redshirted as a freshman in the 2023-24 season for the Missouri Valley Conference champions. The 6-foot-9 forward has four seasons of eligibility remaining. Bath is originally from Fargo, but attended high school and graduated from Totino-Grace in Fridley, Minn. He helped Totino-Grace win back-to-back Minnesota Class AAA state championships, averaging 16.4 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior in 2022-23. With seven returning players, three high school signees, and five incoming transfers, the NDSU roster for the 2024-25 season now stands at 15.

CLEVELAND (AP) — José Ramírez homered with two outs in the eighth inning, sending the Cleveland Guardians to a 3-2 win on Friday night over the Minnesota Twins in a game featuring the first infield shift violation this season. Ramírez connected for his 10th homer on a 2-1 pitch from Jhoan Duran (0-1), driving it into the seats in right field to delight a Progressive Field crowd that came out to see Cleveland’s new uniforms and fireworks. It was the 226th career homer for Ramírez, moving him into a tie for fourth in club history with Hall of Famer Earl Averill. Only Jim Thome (337), Albert Belle (242) and Manny Ramirez (236) have more. The Twins lost their fourth straight and had several calls go against them, including Duran’s first two pitches to Ramírez. “It’s frustrating for our players when late in the game every meaningful call did go against us,” said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli. “The guy who hit the home run (Ramírez), he’s hit a lot of big home runs, he’s a great player. But when the first two pitches in the at-bat are strikes and they both get called balls, that’s hard to swallow.” The Twins stumbled into Cleveland. They were swept at home in a three-game series earlier this week by the New York Yankees, who shut out them out in the final two games and outscored Minnesota 14-1.
