BOYS HOCKEY-ALL STATE
MINOT, ND – The North Dakota High School Coaches Association has named their 2024 Boy Hockey All State Team. Local honorees included senior defender Jaxson Radke of Minot High, junior forward Mackley Morelli of Minot High, senior forward Brooks Siemens of Bottineau-Rugby, and senior forward Adam Graney of Hazen-Beulah. Twenty-three players were named to the All-State Team.

MSU BASEBALL
DENVER, Colo. (MSU) – Grant Gabbert, Colton Bagshaw, and Cameron Carr each blasted a home run while Ricky Apodaca added three hits and four RBIs for Minot State which closed a long weekend in Colorado with a 15-6 win over the host Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Tuesday. The offensive explosion gave the Beavers (4-10 overall, 1-3 NSIC) a split of the non-conference doubleheader as the Orediggers hung on for a 3-2 win in the day’s first game. Minot State now heads to Sioux Falls, S.D., for neutral-site NSIC games against Winona State as the Beavers will be the home team for the weekend series scheduled for a single game on Friday, a doubleheader on Saturday, and a single game Sunday. First pitch each day is slated for Noon.
GAME 1 | Colorado School of Mines 3, Minot State 2
The Colorado School of Mines’ one-run fifth proved to be the difference in the ballgame, as the Minot State Beavers lost a heartbreaker to the Orediggers by the score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Junior Gage Eastlick (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State. Sophomore Colton Bagshaw was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit. In the batter’s box, the Beavers were paced by senior Martin Rodriquez, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and two RBI. Junior Brent Riddle put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double. The Beavers were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State got on the board thanks to Rodriquez’s RBI double with two outs. The Beavers kept the Orediggers off the board before tying it up in the fourth. Junior Javier Gutierrez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score level at 2-2. Colorado School of Mines then scored once in the bottom of the fifth to break the tie and grab the 3-2 win.
GAME 2 | Minot State 15, Colorado School of Mines 6
Sophomore Colton Bagshaw racked up four hits to help power the Minot State Beavers over the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers 15-6 on Tuesday. Junior Hayden Bode (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out one. Junior Devin Marton also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout. In addition to his four hits, Bagshaw had a double, a home run and two RBI to lead the Beavers. Senior Ricky Apodaca put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Junior Grant Gabbert also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and an RBI. The Beavers scored in six different innings on the way to victory. Minot State took the lead for good at 6-5 in the fourth inning on a two-run single off the bat of Apodaca.

MSU MENS GOLF
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (MSU) – The Minot State men’s golf team carved a half dozen strokes off its score from the day before but it wasn’t enough for the Beavers to climb in the team standings as Minot State finished 11th at Maverick Desert Classic at the Palm Valley Golf Club. Minot State shot an 18-over 306 on Tuesday to finish at 42-over 618 in the Beavers first tournament of the spring. Chase Gedak led the way individually for the Beavers as he nearly made up the 6-shot improvement himself, carding a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to climb into a tie for 38th at 9-over 153, shaving five shots off his 7-over 79 on Monday. Zach Hendrickson was next for Minot State as he finished tied for 44th at 10-over 154 (74-80), then came Joshua Tu and Max Karnik who each tied for 58th at 13-over 157. Tu shot rounds of 81 and 76 while Karnik carded a 78 and a 79. Rounding out the scores for Minot State were Casey Fjeld, who tied for 67th at 15-over 159 (82-77), and Gage Olson, who was 92nd at 34-over 178 (90-88). With their first action of the spring now in the books, the Beavers return home to rest and prepare for their next event in three weeks, the NSIC Preview at the Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri, March 25-26. Missouri S&T claimed both titles at the Maverick Desert Classic as the Miners won the team title by 26 shots shooting a two-day total of 13-under 563 and were led by individual champion Carl Miltun who carded a 10-under 134 and outdistanced second-place Brandon Sperling from Concordia, St. Paul by six shots.

MSU MENS WRESTLERING-HONORS
MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – The NSIC coaches voted on the league’s top wrestlers in each weight class and a trio of Minot State grapplers were honored as they were named to the All-NSIC Team. Minot State’s Brendan Barnes was honored as a First Team All-NSIC wrestler at 165 pounds while teammates Wayne Joint and Jake Swirple were named Second Team All-NSIC at 133 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively. The All-NSIC honor is the first for each of the Beaver wrestlers. Barnes finished the 2023-24 season with a 23-4 regular-season record and was ranked No. 9 in the nation at 165 pounds by the NWCA. He went 2-2 at the NCAA Super Region V Tournament but did not place. Joint finished the regular season 21-4 at 133 pounds and went 2-2 at the Super Region V Tournament where he placed fifth. And Swirple finished the regular season 16-2 at 285 pounds and was ranked No. 8 in the nation by the NWCA prior to the Super Region V Tournament where he also went 2-2 and placed fourth.
