MSU WOMENS HOCKEY
MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – In a game that featured a lot of ugly moments and physicality, it was the Minot State women’s hockey team that would find a way to get the job done. The Beavers were back on home ice to kickstart a five-game home stand that runs until the end of the regular season. Jamestown made it up to the Magic City to complete the second of a two-game series that was postponed retroactive to January 14. Minot State (16-10-1) and Jamestown (13-12-0) went head-to-head in a game that was hard hitting and produced rivalry inducing moments. The Beavers won 2-1, but it took some time to get going. To Jamestown’s credit, they hung in there while Minot State struggled to produce after 40 minutes of action.
The first period was scoreless, with both teams still looking for the ice breaker. The Jimmies struck first as Jayden Baker snuck in past the Beaver defense to score via the backhand at 15:06 of the second. Down 1-0, the Beavers had to find an answer quick heading into the third. Nearing the halfway mark of the third period, Minot State would respond in a huge way to tie it at one goal apiece at 9:16. With all momentum shifted, there was still a lot of time left in regulation. Working towards the final five minutes, the Beavers would get a boost on a power play opportunity. Minot State did indeed capitalize on a great passing sequence for the go-ahead goal. The Beavers rallied late, as they held on for the 2-1 win over a feisty Jamestown squad. Both teams will meet again for the final weekend series of the regular season on February 16 and 17. Elevating her game first for the Beavers was Paige Ackerman, as her sixth of the year resulted as the game-tying goal. A perfect setup on the power play was finished by Krissy Rink for her eighth of the season and the eventual game winner at 14:45 of the third. Morgan Baker was the stopgap in net tonight, as she turned down 19 of 20 shots.
The Beavers collected win number six on the year versus Jamestown and their 15th in the all-time series. They will be back at Maysa Arena this weekend to welcome ACHA division two Assiniboine Community College. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. (CT) on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. (CT) on Sunday.

WILD-BLACKHAWKS
CHICAGO (AP) — Marcus Foligno and Nick Foligno both scored Wednesday night. Marcus Foligno also got into a fight, and then walked away with the win. This one went to the younger brother. Marcus Foligno snapped a third-period tie and Filip Gustavsson made 20 saves, sending the Minnesota Wild to a 2-1 victory over Nick Foligno and the lowly Chicago Blackhawks. The Foligno brothers matched up in the first game for the Central Division foes after the All-Star break, and Marcus Foligno’s ninth of the season lifted Minnesota to its 11th consecutive victory over Chicago. Foligno also tangled with Blackhawks defenseman Jarred Tinordi in the second. Jacob Lucchini scored in the first for Minnesota, which had dropped two in a row. The game was tied at 1 when Vinni Lettieri set up Foligno right on the doorstep for the tap-in goal. The Wild host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night.
