GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND) – The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team cruised to a 70-56 victory over St. Thomas on Monday night from the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, N.D. UND (8-3, 1-0 Summit League) used a 26-10 advantage in the second quarter to build a lead and never look back to extend its winning streak to six and give the Fighting Hawks their first 1-0 start in Summit League play for the first time since 2019-20. Kacie Borowicz logged another 20-point outing, pacing all scorers for the 11th straight game with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting to go alongside a trio of rebounds, assists and steals in 30 minutes of action. Claire Orth put together one of her most complete games of the season, scoring a season-best 18 points a near-perfect night from the field (8-of-9) while grabbing a career-high nine rebounds to just miss her first-career double-double. Maggie Manson made it two straight games in double figures with 10 on a trio of triples to finish as the final Fighting Hawk to eclipse the 10-point plateau. North Dakota jumps right back into action tonight against Western Illinois at 7 p.m. from the Betty.

St. Paul, Minn. (UND) – North Dakota fell 75-62 to St. Thomas inside Schoenecker Arena on Monday night. The Tommies went on a 13-0 run in the second half and the Fighting Hawks were unable to overcome it, despite trimming the deficit to five points on two occasions after that run. Riley Miller was the only other player for St. Thomas in double figures, finishing with 24 points and knocking down five triples. Miller was also a perfect 7-for-7 at the stripe. B.J. Omot paced the Fighting Hawks (6-8, 0-1 SL) with 14 points, making a team high six shots. He also grabbed four rebounds. Elijah Brooks poured in 10 points, going 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. He also hauled in four boards. The game was knotted up at 30-30 at intermission. MACOMB, Ill. (NDSU) – North Dakota State’s Grant Nelson finished with 35 points and 16 rebounds, but Western Illinois beat the Bison men’s basketball team 79-60 in the Summit League opener for both schools on Monday evening. Nelson set new career-highs in both points and rebounds. NDSU fought its way back from a 10-point deficit to get within one at 44-43 with 12 minutes remaining. The Leathernecks pieced together an 18-8 run over the next four minutes to take control. Junior guard Boden Skunberg added 10 points and a pair of steals for the Bison. Western Illinois shot 48 percent for the game and made 10-of-22 (45 percent) from three-point range. The Bison made 44 percent overall, but only 1-of-17 from beyond the arc. WOLVES-MAVS

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Anthony Edwards had 27 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 116-106 victory over the unglued Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks lost star Luca Doncic and coach Jason Kidd to successive ejections in the third quarter. Naz Reid pitched in 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Timberwolves kept up their energy from a franchise-record 150-point performance a night earlier. They played without standout big men Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns and three key reserves. Doncic had a season-low 19 points on 5-for-17 shooting. He was whistled for consecutive technical fouls to prompt the ejection.

NFL-MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A.J. Dillon ran for two scores, Aaron Rodgers threw a touchdown pass to Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers kept their playoff hopes afloat with a 24-12 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Dillon put Green Bay ahead for good with an 8-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and also scored from 1 yard out in the third period. He left midway through the second half to be evaluated for a concussion. Rodgers went 22 of 30 for 229 yards with a touchdown and interception to win his ninth straight “Monday Night Football” start.

The Los Angeles Rams have piled up far more injuries than wins during a Super Bowl title defense that never really had much chance of success. They wasted no time adding to that injury list Monday night while setting a dubious mark with their 10th loss, matching the most ever by a defending Super Bowl champion. Rams center Brian Allen injured a calf on the first play from scrimmage in a 24-12 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The latest setback dropped the Rams’ record to 4-10. That matches the highest loss total by any defending Super Bowl champ.

NFL-ZIMMER CAUSE OF DEATH

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Medical examiners say the death of Cincinnati Bengals analyst Adam Zimmer was caused by chronic alcohol use. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in Minnesota released the finding Friday. Zimmer had been found dead in October at age 38 at his home in Minnesota. Zimmer was a former Minnesota Vikings co-defensive coordinator and the son of former head coach Mike Zimmer. He had been working remotely this season as an offensive analyst for the Cincinnati Bengals after eight years with the Vikings under his father. When Mike Zimmer was fired in January, most of his staff was also dismissed.
