MSU MENS HOCKEY

MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – It was about as what you would expect in a rivalry matchup, as Maysa Arena was the site for a highly contested battle between Minot State and University of Mary. The Beavers took on the Marauders for the third time this season and came out victorious. After jumping up to No. 1 in the rankings earlier today, the Beavers (17-4-0) and 7th-ranked Marauders (14-5-0) were locked in for a good one on the ice. Both teams had a chance to win in a tight, low-scoring game. Minot State scored the all-important first goal of the game in period one. Mary tied it in the middle frame, setting up for a crucial third period of regulation. The Beavers would waste no time in grabbing the go-ahead goal, and close things out in crunch time with an empty netter to seal the deal.

There was little action for the first 19 minutes of the first, until Minot State got the ice breaker with just 22 seconds left to go in the period. After Mary evened the score in the second, the Beavers made it count on the power play just 43 seconds into the third. They held on for the 2-1 lead until the Beavers picked up the dagger on an open net with 14 seconds remaining in the final period of play. Both teams will meet again in the new year for a matchup on January 10, 2024, in Minot. Sheldin Howard had himself a night, scoring two goals for the Beavers including the empty netter. Reid Arnold continues to light the lamp for Minot State with his 13th goal of the season. That one ended up being the power play marker early in the third period. Christian Kadolph carried on with his stellar play from the back end, as he registered a two-assist performance. Joey Moffatt and Josh Pederson also picked up helpers in the win. Jake Anthony did his part as starting goaltender for the Beavers, with 21 saves on 22 shots from Mary. The Beavers were able to finish the rivalry game strong and close it out with the win. It is their third victory over Mary this season, and eighth all-time against the Marauders.
