MINOT, ND – Friday was the opening night for Class A basketball teams. Minot High is the defending state champ in both girl’s and boy’s. The #1 Minot High girls began the season at #3 West Fargo. The Majettes scored the first 14 points before the Packers got on the board and led 60-38 at halftime. They would set a school record for points in a game (107) and made 3’s in a game (19).

MSU FOOTBALL-COACH

 

MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – Minot State University will be looking for a new head football coach. The University announced Friday that coach Mike Aldrich’s contract is not being renewed, marking the end of his 6-year tenure as head coach of the program. Minot State University will immediately start the process of identifying a new head coach. During Coach Aldrich’s time at Minot State, the Beavers saw offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez become an NFL prospect as the former Minot State player signed a free agent contract with the Denver Broncos during the summer of 2022. JoseLuis Moreno, Ali Mohamed, and Gutierrez were named All-Americans under Coach Aldrich’s guidance, Philip Green was honored as one of just 22 players in all of college football to be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in the fall of 2021, and defensive lineman Will Jordan was named a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American. During Coach Aldrich’s tenure – which included the cancelation of the 2020 season because of COVID – the Beavers compiled a 10-45 overall record, all of which were NSIC games.

FARGO, ND (NDSU) – North Dakota State makes its 13th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championship today when the No. 3-seeded Bison (9-2) face the 17th-ranked Montana Grizzlies (8-4) in the second round. Game time is 2:30 p.m. at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. While NDSU and the other top eight national seeds were off last week with a bye, Montana rallied from a 24-3 third quarter deficit to beat Southeast Missouri State 34-24 in a first-round game in Missoula. Malik Flowers’ 80-yard kickoff return touchdown sparked the rally and the Griz tied the game less than five minutes later when Junior Bergen scored on a 58-yard punt return. North Dakota State has a 5-4 lead in the all-time series with Montana dating back to 1914. The teams haven’t met since the 2015 second round in Fargo, a 37-6 NDSU win.
