MSU MENS HOCKEY-CONFERENCE
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (MSU) – Minot State Director of Athletics, Kevin Forde, and men’s hockey coach Wyatt Waselenchuk are excited to announce a new chapter in the storied Minot State men’s hockey program’s history as the Beavers will join the Midwest College Hockey (MCH) conference beginning with the 2024-25 season. One of the premier men’s Division I programs in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the current defending National Champions, Minot State has won the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship in the 2012-13 season, in the 2018-19 season, and again this past spring playing as an independent team without a conference affiliation.
MCH coaches unanimously approved the addition of Minot State as an MCH member institution. Minot State will be joining nine MCH member teams in 2024-25 who include the University of Illinois (Champaign, Ill.), Illinois State University (Normal, Ill.), Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa) Jamestown University (Jamestown, N.D.), University of Mary (Bismarck, N.D.), McKendree University (Lebanon, Ill.), Midland University (Fremont, Neb.), Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, Ill.), and Waldorf University (Forest City, Iowa). With the addition of Minot State, MCH teams will be split into two five-team divisions for scheduling purposes. Illinois, Illinois State, Iowa State, McKendree, and Northern Illinois will comprise one division while Jamestown, Mary, Midland, Minot State, and Waldorf will be in the other division. All MCH teams are expected to play a 20-game regular season conference schedule. Each MCH team will play a home-and-home series against the teams in its division and will also have one home series and one road series against teams from the other division. The MCH Regular Season Champion will be determined on a points basis. The MCH Playoff Tournament is held at the conclusion of the MCH regular season in late February or early March. The winner of the MCH Playoff Tournament will be awarded the MCH’s automatic bid to the ACHA Men’s Division I National Championships presented by FloHockey.

NDSU MENS BASKETBALL
MISSOULA, Mont. (NDSU) – UC Davis took advantage of 18 offensive rebounds to earn a 68-53 victory over the North Dakota State men’s basketball team on Tuesday afternoon inside Dahlberg Arena. Senior Boden Skunberg led NDSU with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Damari Wheeler-Thomas had nine points and three assists for the Bison. Elijah Pepper scored 24 points to power the UC Davis offensive attack. Both teams shot 40 percent overall for the game. The Aggies were 9-for-20 (45 percent) from three-point range, while the Bison made 6-of-14 (43 percent) from downtown. UC Davis recorded a plus-10 rebounding advantage and turned 18 offensive boards into 14 second-chance points. NDSU trimmed a 13-point deficit to six at 56-50 with just over four minutes remaining in the contest, but UC Davis scored the next 10 points to seal th victory. The Bison will play Montana on Thursday night in Missoula at 9 p.m. CT

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Karl-Anthony Towns scored 33 points, sending the Minnesota Timberwolves to their seventh straight victory, a 104-101 In-Season Tournament win over the Golden State Warriors that featured three early ejections on Tuesday night. With the game still scoreless and not yet two minutes old, Golden State’s Draymond Green was ejected after putting Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert in a headlock. Warriors guard Klay Thompson and Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels, who got into a shoving match that resulted in Thompson’s jersey being ripped, were also tossed from the game. Golden State was already without leading scorer Stephen Curry, who was ruled out with right knee soreness. Coach Steve Kerr said Curry underwent an MRI, and the team is awaiting results.The rematch of the Wolves’ 116-110 win at the Chase Center on Sunday was not lacking in intensity as the lead changed several times in the fourth quarter, until Towns gave Minnesota the lead for good with a 3-pointer with 1:07 remaining. Towns also grabbed 11 boards, and Gobert had 13. Reigning Western Conference player of the week Anthony Edwards scored 20 points. The Timberwolves play at Phoenix tonight.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings signed linebacker Anthony Barr to their practice squad on Tuesday, bringing back their 2014 first-round draft pick and four-time Pro Bowl pick for depth after an injury to leading tackler Jordan Hicks that sent him to injured reserve. Hicks bruised his right shin in the first quarter of Minnesota’s 27-19 win on Sunday over New Orleans, returned late in the second quarter and was forced out of the game for good after an aggravation of the injury in the third quarter. Hicks developed a condition called compartment syndrome, which is caused by a pressure buildup from internal bleeding or swollen tissues. He was hospitalized for two nights after emergency surgery. The Vikings said Hicks was discharged on Tuesday. Hicks posted on the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, a picture of him smiling in his hospital bed. He said the procedure was “a huge success.” But the team took the cautious route with the move to IR, which means he’s ineligible for the next four games. The earliest Hicks can return is Dec. 24 against division-leading Detroit. The Vikings (6-4) will play Denver, Chicago, Las Vegas and Cincinnati without him.
“It’s a big loss for us,” said defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who visited Hicks at the hospital. “I think he’s playing at a Pro Bowl level.” Hicks has 87 tackles, tied for 10th in the NFL. He has four tackles for loss, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries for the Vikings this season, playing 100% of the defensive snaps in six of the first nine games. Rookie Ivan Pace Jr. took over the defensive calls without Hicks, and Troy Dye also played extensively in the second half. Brian Asamoah, their only other inside linebacker on the active roster, has missed the past three games with an ankle injury. The 5-foot-10 Pace, who was a priority undrafted free agent signing out of Cincinnati, had five tackles against the Saints and has so far proven to be a capable blitzer and run-stopper. “I thought he did a good job of getting the calls out, executing the calls, playing fast,” Flores said, “and we’ll need more of that.”
The Vikings often use only one inside linebacker in their variety of sets under the aggressive and creative direction of Flores, with third safety Josh Metellus sometimes playing like a linebacker. Hicks has played a vital role in the defense’s resurgence in 2023. Barr was the ninth overall pick in 2014 out of UCLA. He was a starting linebacker for eight seasons, before becoming a free agent in 2022. The Vikings signed Hicks to replace him, and Barr played last year for Dallas. He had been unsigned in 2023 until reuniting with the Vikings.
In addition to the placement of Hicks on IR, Minnesota announced Tuesday afternoon that it has re-signed running back Myles Gaskin to the practice squad. In order to make room for Gaskin, Minnesota released defensive lineman Michael Dogbe from the practice squad. Dogbe had joined the group on Oct. 31. Gaskin joined the Vikings at the end of August after his release by the Dolphins during roster reductions. He spent time on Minnesota’s 53-man roster and practice squad. Gaskin played two special teams snaps for the Vikings in Week 2 at Philadelphia. In Week 7, the Rams signed Gaskin from the Vikings practice squad. Gaskin played six special teams snaps for Los Angeles against Dallas in Week 8. Gaskin has appeared in 40 games with 17 starts. He’s totaled 1,355 yards and seven touchdowns on 361 rushes, as well as 701 yards and six scores on 101 receptions (all with Miami from 2019-22).
