LAKE CITY, Minn. (MSU) – For the second straight week, Minot State sophomore Zach Hendrickson finished tied for third at a tournament, this time shooting a pair of collegiate-bests at the Watkins Invitational. While Hendrickson led the way for the Minot State men, who finished 14th at the event hosted by Winona State, the Beavers’ Taylor Cormier added a collegiate-best round of her own to charge up the leaderboard and tie for ninth as the Minot State women finished fifth during an extended Tuesday round of golf at The Jewel Golf Club.
Hendrickson, who tied for 3rd and was two shots off the lead last week at the CSP-MSU Fall Brawl, shot a career-low 2-under 70 on Tuesday in the final round of the Watkins Invitational to finish at 3-under 141 (71-70), a 36-hole best for him, as well. His 71 matched his previous best round from last week, and last season, as the opening 18 holes finished Tuesday morning with many players were on the course for 27 holes or more of action because of inclement weather on Monday.
Meanwhile, Cormier also had a long Tuesday as she finished off her first round and shot an 8-over 79, then followed that with a 4-over 75, a career-best round by one shot as she carded a 76 last season as a junior. Her efforts Tuesday landed her in a tie for ninth at 12-over 154 (79-75). As for the Beaver women, they were fifth at 77-over 645 (322-323) with a pair of consistent rounds. Minnesota State, Mankato won the women’s team title by a slim two shots over tournament host Winona State as the Mavericks carded a team-total of 24-over 592 (302-290). The Warriors’ Carly Moon was the individual champion, winning the title by five shots with a 4-under 138 (67-71). As for Minot State, they got a second Top-20 finish this fall from freshman Lauryn Keller, who tied for 18th at 18-over 160 (78-82), then came Jaci Jones, who tied for 23rd at 20-over 162 (81-81), Holly Knudsen, who tied for 32rd at 27-over 169 (84-85), Zoe Banack, who was 38th at 36-over 178 (90-88), and Abigail Goettle, who was 39th at 37-over 179 (91-88).
On the men’s side, host Winona State swept the titles as the Warriors took the team title by three strokes over Sioux Falls with a 13-under 563 (283-280), and Alesandro Trenta won the individual crown by one shot with a 7-under 137 65-72. Backing up Hendrickson’s third-place finish for the Beaver men were Chase Gedak, who tied for 28th at 3-over 147 (73-74), Max Karnik, who tied for 71st at 13-over 157 (82-75), Casey Fjeld, who was 88th at 23-over 167 (84-83), and Sid Ullyott, who was 91st at 38-over 182 (93-89). The Minot State men finished 14th at 36-over 612 (310-302).
The fourth event of the fall for Minot State, the Beavers get little rest as they swing back into action next week, but play much closer to home as they head to the Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck, North Dakota for the Marauder Fall Invite on Monday and Tuesday.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Matt Wallner hit a grand slam in a five-run first inning, Alex Kirilloff added a two-run homer and the Minnesota Twins beat the Oakland Athletics 11-3 on a cold and drizzly night Tuesday night. With its 109th loss, the Athletics set a record for losses in a season since moving to Oakland in 1968, topping the 108 in 1979. The franchise record is 117, set in Philadelphia in 1916. Wallner’s second career grand slam went an estimated 463 feet high into the right-field seats, the 13th homer of his rookie season, off Oakland starter Paul Blackburn. Christian Vázquez added a three-run double for Minnesota, the AL Central champion that started its final home series of the regular season.
Bailey Ober (8-6) pitched the first five innings to earn the win for the Twins, who are using the final week of the season to set up their pitching for the playoffs. Chris Paddack pitched behind Ober, making his first major league appearance since May 8, 2022, after undergoing a second Tommy John surgery. Brock Stewart also made his return to the mound for Minnesota after missing 77 games with right elbow soreness. Ober allowed two hits and faced just one over the minimum in his five innings. Paddack allowed a single to his first batter before striking out three in a row. But the right-hander gave up three runs, including a two-run homer to Seth Brown in his second inning of work. Blackburn (4-7) gave up five earned runs in three innings for Oakland. He allowed a single to Donovan Solano with two outs in the first before walking three straight batters.
