UND FOOTBALL

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UND) – Former North Dakota wide receiver Travis Toivonen was signed by the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday afternoon. He will join the team’s practice squad and is one of the 14 players on the scout team. Toivonen ranks third in UND’s Division I era in both career receptions (139) and yards (1,719). He also sits fourth in career touchdown grabs with 13. Toivonen played four seasons with North Dakota graduating in 2019. He helped the Fighting Hawks reach the postseason in both 2016 and 2019, the first two appearances for the program in its Division I era (2008-present). He was undrafted in 2020 and spent the year signed with the Fan Controlled Football League. Toivonen was later signed by the Seattle Seahawks and then spent the end of the 2021 season with the New York Giants. Most recently, Toivonen was resigned by the Giants and then let go last week. The Red Wing, Minn., native is now one of three UND products on current NFL rosters, joining Kenny Golladay (2012-13) who is with the New York Giants and recent Fighting Hawk Matt Waletzko (2018-21) who was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2022 NFL Draft.
