MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – Minot State got contributions from every part of their lineup as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Beavers put eight runs on the board and take down the Northern State Wolves 8-3 on Sunday to complete their NSIC weekend baseball series. Junior Gage Yost (3-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for Minot State (22-11 overall, 13-8 NSIC). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing three walks, and striking out six. Sophomore Colton Bagshaw also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with one walk, and one strikeout. Offensively, the Beavers were led by junior Mark Ossanna, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Senior Derek Kay put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Dalin Ludlow also helped out for Minot State, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding two doubles and two RBI.
The Beavers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Minot State plated two runs when Ossanna left the yard with junior Javier Gutierrez aboard. The Wolves then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Beavers expanded their advantage in the fourth. Senior Matt Malone came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the Beavers lead to 3-1. Minot State kept Northern State without a run before building their lead to 8-1 the following inning. The Beavers bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Kay and a two-run double from Ludlow. Northern State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still coasted to the 8-3 win.
Minot State is back in action at home on Wednesday, next hosting an NSIC doubleheader against visiting St. Cloud State starting at 1:30 p.m. at Corbett Field.

MINOT STATE WOMEN’S SOFTBALL
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MSU) – Taryn Bennett’s 2-run home run capped a dramatic 9-run rally for Minot State as the Beavers battled back for an 11-10 win over host Sioux Falls on Sunday taking the second game of the teams’ NSIC doubleheader. The host Cougars took the opener 10-2 in five innings. The doubleheader was the start of a three-day, six-game road trip for the Beavers (21-15 overall, 8-6 NSIC) who play another NSIC twinbill today at Southwest Minnesota State starting at Noon.
GAME 1 | Sioux Falls 10, Minot State 2
The Minot State Beavers had a tough showing on Sunday, falling to the Sioux Falls Cougars 10-2 despite the efforts of junior Gabi Dawyduk, who went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Reegan Floyd (7-8) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State. In the batter’s box, the Beavers were led by Dawyduk, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Leo Watson compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3. Freshman Paige Kellogg also contributed for Minot State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI. The Beavers were trailing 6-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Kellogg’s run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Minot State. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Sioux Falls added four runs to their tally on the way to a 10-2 final.
GAME 2 | Minot State 11, Sioux Falls 10
The Minot State Beavers responded from down 8-2 in the sixth inning to win in thrilling fashion, scoring nine runs in the seventh to earn an 11-10 victory over the Sioux Falls Cougars on Sunday. Freshman Calley Olson (9-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits. At the plate, the Beavers were led by junior Taryn Bennett, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles, a home run and two RBI. Junior Brooklyn Morrison compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Freshman Sara Van Wickler also contributed for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a triple and two RBI. Trailing 3-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Morrison put Minot State on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Hanna Cress. The Beavers deficit expanded to 7-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. Minot State pushed across a run on senior Leo Watson’s two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Cougars. Sioux Falls built their lead to 8-2 before the Minot State offense got going, overtaking the Cougars to grab an 11-8 advantage in the seventh. The Beavers bats heated up in the inning, scoring nine runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Bennett and a two-run error off the bat of freshman Anna LaCount. Sioux Falls put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still held on for the 11-10 win.

NEW YORK (AP) — Gerrit Cole pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for his fourth career shutout and the second complete game in the majors this season, leading the New York Yankees to a 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. DJ LeMahieu homered and hit an RBI single for the Yankees, who earned a split of the four-game series after putting slugger Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list with a hamstring strain before the game. New York has won or split its first five series for the first time since 2010, the Elias Sports Bureau said. Cole (4-0) lowered his ERA to 0.95 in four starts, finishing off the Twins on 109 pitches in 2 hours, 7 minutes. He got the final nine outs on just 25 pitches and retired former Astros teammate Carlos Correa on a fly ball to end it. It was Cole’s seventh career complete game and his first shutout since July 10, 2021, at Houston. The only other complete game in the big leagues this year also came against Minnesota, when reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara threw a three-hitter for Miami in a 1-0 win on April 4 that lasted 1 hour, 57 minutes.

WOLVES-NUGGETS
DENVER (AP) – Jamal Murray scored 24 points and the top-seeded Denver Nuggets routed the Minnesota Timberwolves 109-80 in the opener of their playoff series Sunday night. This marked Murray’s first playoff game since the 2020 NBA bubble. He missed the last two postseasons after tearing his left ACL in 2021. Nikola Jokic added 13 points and 14 rebounds and Michael Porter scored 18 for Denver. Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 18 points. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 18 points. Karl-Anthony Towns, who was rounding into form this month after missing 52 games with a bad calf, missed 10 of his first 12 shots and finished with 11 points. Game 2 is Wednesday night in Denver.
