MINOT, ND – Connor Kerzmann and Braxton Iglehart combined for 53 points as Garrison outlasted Velva 78-66 last night in a game we broadcast on K-Heart. Kerzmann tallied 28 points, including four 3’s, and Iglehart added 25 points, including four 3’s as the Troopers improve their record to 8-2. Reggie Bruner scored 18 for the Aggies, including 8 of 9 freethrows made. Kyle Sandy added 15 points and Ben Schepp 11 as the Aggies drop to 8-3.

 

More high school basketball is on the air today as Des Lacs-Burlington hosts Berthold in a girl/boy doubleheader. Girls tipoff around 5 pm with boys to follow around 6:30 pm. Both games can be heard on 106.9 K-Heart, khrt.com, and through the Live 365 app.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — D’Angelo Russell scored 16 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, Anthony Edwards had 23 and the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied to beat the Toronto Raptors 128-126 on Thursday night. Kyle Anderson added 20 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, which was down Rudy Gobert and Austin Rivers. The Timberwolves erased a 14-point deficit midway through the fourth with a defensive effort not typically seen from Minnesota, particularly without Gobert making an impact down low. Scottie Barnes had 12 of his season-high 29 points in the fourth for Toronto, which had won four of six.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A late injury to Carolina winger Max Pacioretty overshadowed the Hurricanes’ 5-2 win against Minnesota. Brent Burns, Brady Skjei and Jalen Chatfield scored to give Carolina another productive offensive outing from its blueliners. Frederik Andersen was strong in net for Carolina with 30 saves. The Hurricanes saw Pacioretty go down late with a non-contact injury that left him unable to put any weight on his right leg. They had acquired him from Vegas in a July trade and he had recently made his debut following offseason surgery. Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy scored for the Wild. Marc-Andre Fleury had 24 saves.

VIKINGS-DONATELL FIRED

 

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have fired defensive coordinator Ed Donatell in an unsurprising decision on the veteran coach after a dismal finish by his defense. The Vikings ranked second worst in yards allowed in the NFL and fourth worst in points allowed during the regular season. They gave up 431 yards and 31 points to the New York Giants in their wild-card round loss last week. Coach Kevin O’Connell was hired a year ago by the Vikings and made Donatell his first defensive coordinator. The 65-year-old Donatell has coached 32 seasons in the league with defensive coordinator stints with four different teams.
