MSU MEN’S HOCKEY
MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – Friday, freshman Sheldin Howard had a career night in just his 10th collegiate hockey game. Howard recorded his first collegiate hat trick, helping lead the way for the top-ranked Minot State Beavers who cruised to an 8-1 win over the visiting Oregon Ducks at the Maysa Arena. Davis Sheldon actually got Minot State started on the night with a short-handed goal off a Carter Barley assist 11 minutes, 29 seconds into the action. Then Howard went to work as he scored his first of the night with 2:55 left before the first intermission. Howard then collected his second of the night midway through the second period, and after a Drew Carter goal pushed Minot State in front 4-0, Howard went ahead and finished off his first career hat trick with a goal with 5:19 left in the second for a commanding 5-0 lead. From there, the Beavers (11-0-0 overall) tacked on one more before the end of the period, a Landyn Cochrane goal, then Reece Henry added two more Minot State goals in the third period. Riley Wallace benefited from all the offense, earning the win in goal in his second start of the season as he made 18 saves.

MSU WOMEN’S WRESTLING
MINOT, N.D. (MSU) – The debut of the Minot State women’s wrestling program provided a pin and a close battle, but in the end, it was second-year Chadron State that picked up the dual win. Minot State got a pin from Jazmin Gorder, and Nina Sandoval added a great effort, but the Beavers came up short falling 42-5 to the visiting Eagles to start the Beaver Bash Duals. The Duals continue Saturday with five more dual matches for the women’s wrestling teams as Saskatchewan and Jamestown join in with Chadron State and Minot State. Action begins at 10 a.m. with Chadron State facing Saskatchewan. The Beavers return to action at 1 p.m. against Saskatchewan, then meet Jamestown at 2 p.m. to close out the day. Also in action will be the Minot State men, Jamestown men, and Saskatchewan men, with action begin at 11 a.m. for them. Minot State wrestles Saskatchewan at 12:30 p.m., and Jamestown at 2 p.m. Gorder earned her fourth collegiate win on Friday with a pin over Kacey Schafer in their 123-pound match. While Gorder picked up the lone win, the Beavers nearly got another win from Sandoval at 155 pounds, but she fell in an 8-4 decision to Marissa Porsch.
