    MAYVILLE, ND - The best football players from North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota are at Mayville State College this week preparing for the 2014 Shrine Bowl.  This marks the 42th annual Shrine Bowl which will be played this Sunday, July 13th, at the Fargo Dome.  The 11 man game is scheduled for 4:00 pm and 9 man at 7:00 pm.
    
    Teams are made up of 120 athletes from North Dakota and 12 from northwest Minnesota, split into East and West squads.  The 11 man west is coached by Mark Gibson of Bismarck with Matt Weidler of Velva, James Johnson of Des Lacs-Burlington and Brad Borkhuis of Bishop Ryan assisting.  The 9 man west is lead by Mike Zier of Beach with assistants including Cale Peterson of M-L-S, Funnon Barker of Shiloh Christian and Jamie Krenz of Grant County-Flasher.

     NEW YORK (AP) - Minot native Gary Cederstrom is going to be the home plate umpire for next week's All-Star game at Target Field in Minnesota.  Cederstrom also will serve as the crew chief in his second career All-Star game. He was the third base umpire for the 2003 game at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.

    CHARLESTON, S.C. (NDSU) - North Dakota State kicker Adam Keller was named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) watch list announced Monday, July 7.

    The initial watch list includes 36 returning players, vying for the top placekicker award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.

    Keller, a senior from Lewisberry, Pa., set school records for PAT kicks made (76) and attempted (78) for the second straight season.  Keller converted 9 of 12 field goals including a season-long 48-yarder in the FCS quarterfinal victory over Coastal Carolina.  He led the Bison in scoring with 103 points.

    Keller joins tight end Kevin Vaadeland, wide receiver Zach Vraa, running back John Crockett, free safety Christian Dudzik, strong safety Colten Heagle, defensive end Kyle Emanuel and linebacker Carlton Littlejohn on the 2014 CFPA Watch List.
 
    Two former NDSU stars have earned CFPA honors: John Prelvitz (CFPA Punter Award) and Marcus Williams (CFPA Defensive Back Award).
