Cleveland has the first pick in the NBA Draft that is on tap tonight in New York and they could parlay it into a big payoff.....

NEW YORK (AP) - Cleveland has the first pick in the NBA Draft that is on tap tonight in New York and they could parlay it into a big payoff.  The Cavs hope to make a big pitch to LeBron James to return to his roots after the Heat star elected to opt out of the final two years of his contract.

If the Cavaliers hit the jackpot with the number one pick, or trade it for an attractive package of players and draft picks, they're hoping it could entice James to return to Cleveland.  Among the highly regarded talent expected to go early are former Kansas star Andrew Wiggins and Duke's Jabari Parker.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have the 13th pick in the first round and three more in the second round.

DENVER (AP) - A person with knowledge of the situation says the Denver Nuggets have acquired guard Arron Afflalo from Orlando for guard Evan Fournier and the No. 56 pick in the draft. Afflalo returns to the Nuggets after averaging 18 points for the Magic last season.  Fournier averaged 8.4 points and 1.5 assists in 2013-14.

RECIFE, Brazil (AP) - The United States lost to Germany 1-0 but has still reached the knockout stage of consecutive World Cups for the first time.  The Americans finished tied for second in the Group with Portugal, but advanced by virtue of a better goal differential in their three matches.

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) - Tiger Woods is showing the effects of his 109-day layoff due to back surgery, shooting a 3-over 74 in the opening round of the Quicken Loans National.  In his return to competitive play, Woods carded seven bogeys in his opening 12 holes.
