Here is Christian identity: I know my past, where I came from. I came from God. I know what went wrong. I tried to play God instead of being satisfied to be a real man. I know my future. My destiny is Christ. And I know the present. I can face myself now—my problems, my hang-ups, my assets, my faults—because I have turned myself over to God.

Despite losing three of five to the White Sox in Chicago this week, Minnesota still clings to the second wild card spot in the American League.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Indians All-Star reliever Andrew Miller will be shut down from throwing for five to seven days because of tendinitis in his right knee. Miller was placed on the disabled list for the second time this month after facing only two batters Monday against Boston. Miller was a key figure in Cleveland's World Series run last season. He's 4-3 with a 1.65 ERA and two saves in 48 games this season.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is getting a hefty raise after winning the national championship. The university announced today that its Board of Trustees approved a new 8-year, $54 million contract for Swinney. The deal pays Swinney $6 million this season, has $3.2 million in signing bonuses in three installments and includes a $6 million buyout until the end of 2018. Swinney was paid just over $4.5 million in 2016 before his team beat Alabama to win Swinney's first national championship.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey has signed veteran winger Drew Stafford to a one-year deal worth $800,000. That's a significant pay cut from the $4.35 million he made the past two seasons.      NEW YORK (AP) - If Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal finally are going to face each other at the U.S. Open for the first time, it only could happen in the semifinals. Federer and Nadal were drawn today into a possible meeting in the final four at the year's last Grand Slam tournament, which starts Monday. Nadal is seeded No. 1 at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2010. Federer is seeded No. 3. Both wound up on the top half of the U.S. Open's bracket. The bottom half's semifinal could be No. 2 Andy Murray vs. No. 4 Alexander Zverev.

NEW YORK (AP) - Maria Sharapova's first Grand Slam match in more than 1 1/2 years will come against No. 2-seeded Simona Halep at the U.S. Open. Sharapova's first-round matchup with two-time French Open runner-up Halep was set up by today's draw. The U.S. Tennis Association awarded a wild-card invitation to Sharapova, who is ranked only 147th after returning from a 15-month doping suspension in April. Her five major championships include the 2006 U.S. Open.
