INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Injured guard/forward Paul George of the Indiana Pacers is scheduled to meet with reporters today in Indianapolis. He is recovering from surgery to repair his broken right leg, suffered while trying out for the U.S. men's national team in Las Vegas.
     Officials of the Pacers recently said they expect George will make a full recovery. He averaged just under 22 points a game last season for Indiana.


Valley City State received three of seven first-place votes and sits atop the North Star Athletic Associstion preseson football coaches poll.  The Vikings totaled 43 points to finish first in the balloting.  Jamestown finished second with 37 points despite not picking up a first-place vote.

Dickinson State, joining the league this fall after moving over from the Frontier Conference, got two first-place votes and finished third with 36 points.  Mayville State, Presentation College, Dakota State and Waldorf (Iowa) rounded out the poll.


MINOT, N.D. - The Minot State University softball team added another member to their 2014 recruiting class after Sydney Prigge committed to play for the Beavers.

Prigge is a Tacoma, Wash. native and attended Gig Harbor High School in all four years of her high school career. The standout pitcher and outfielder posted a 9-2 record with a 1.97 ERA on the rubber and also showed the ability to hit with power.
Prigge was named to the 2013-14 All-Narrows League First Team and was also named to the 2013-14 All-Area Second Team. She lettered in all four years during her prep career.


The North Dakota State women's soccer team opens the 2014 season Saturday, Aug. 16, against the University of Jamestown Jimmies in an exhibition match at Dacotah Field. The match is the first of two exhibition contests for the Bison before they begin the regular season at home Aug. 22 against North Dakota.

    NDSU will play its first four matches of the season in the friendly confines of Dacotah Field. After facing Jamestown Saturday, the Bison will host Bemidji State on Aug. 19 in their final exhibition match before welcoming North Dakota to Fargo on Aug. 22 for the regular season opener. NDSU will finish the homestand with a match against Presentation College on Aug. 24.  North Dakota State will play a total of nine home matches this season.


 BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) - Qualifying for Sunday's Michigan 400 Sprint Cup race is taking place today at Michigan International Speedway. Tony Stewart has opted to not compete this week as the investigation into his running over and killing dirt track driver Kevin Ward Jr. continues.
