K-HEART SPORTS - FRIDAY - 06/27/14 - PM EDITION

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Softball players are once again flocking to Bismarck for the McQuade charity softball tournament.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Softball players are once again flocking to Bismarck for the McQuade charity softball tournament.

McQuade Distributing Company bills the event as the largest nonprofit, one-weekend slowpitch softball tournament in the country.

The 39th annual tournament is Friday through Sunday. Last year, the event featured 454 teams from around the country and Canada.

The Bismarck Police Department has issued a statement urging motorists to use caution because of the increased traffic.

UNDATED (AP) - The U.S. World Cup team has its next game on July 1 when the Americans take on Belgium. This marks just the first time a U.S. team has advanced to the knockout round in back to back World Cups. The Americans were eliminated by Ghana four years ago in the round of 16.

Play in the knockout round starts Saturday with host Brazil facing Chile and Colombia going up against Uruguay

U.S. midfielder Jermaine Jones has a broken nose as he expected after Thursday's game against Germany, but he is scheduled to play in the round of 16.

U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman Michael Kammarman said Jones and fellow midfielder Alejandro Bedoya each were checked on the field during the 1-0 loss at Recife following their second-half collision, and three more times since. Jones won't wear a protective mask and the fracture hasn't caused discoloration in the area.

Forward Jozy Altidore's status for the knockout stage remains unclear, though he's making positive progress since straining his left hamstring in the first half of the Americans' opening win against Ghana on June 16. He ran at a good pace around the field at Sao Paulo Futebol Clube and did some stretching.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - There doesn't seem to be a clear cut choice for the No. 1 pick in tonight's NHL Draft. Florida holds the top choice and general manager Dale Tallon hasn't tipped his hand as to who he might pick. There has also been a lot of speculation that he might trade the pick.

Following the Panthers are the Sabres, Oilers, Flames and Islanders.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Minnesota Twins have called up right-handed pitcher Yohan Pino from Triple-A Rochester, just one day after sending him down.

The move was made before Friday's game at Texas, when the Twins also placed shortstop/center fielder Danny Santana on the 15-day disabled list with a bone bruise in his left knee.

The Twins announced Pino as their starter for Monday's game against Kansas City. Pino was sent down Thursday so the Twins could call up shortstop Jorge Polanco from Class A Fort Myers for depth after Santana was hurt. Santana suffered the injury running the bases Wednesday.

Pino made his major league debut last week. In two starts, he has a 6.30 ERA over 10 innings.
