The Minnesota Twins have put outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain....

DETROIT (AP) - The Minnesota Twins have put outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.  The team reinstated outfielder Sam Fuld from his rehab assignment and recalled catcher Eric Fryer today before opening a series in Detroit.

Hicks was hurt diving for a ball June 7 in Houston. He has a .198 average with one homer and nine RBIs in 48 games. Hicks, who Minnesota drafted No. 14 overall in 208, is hitting .194 with nine homers and 36 RBIs in 129 games over two seasons.

Fuld was put on the seven-day DL May 8 with concussion-like symptoms. He hit .429 over four games at Double-A New Britain to get ready for his return.

Fryer hit .252 in 36 games this season at Triple-A Rochester.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings have signed wide receiver Josh Cooper.  The move was made today. To make room for Cooper on the roster, wide receiver Lestar Jean was waived.

Cooper spent the last two years with Cleveland after signing with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State. Cooper appeared in 11 games, totaling 17 receptions and 166 yards. Last season, he caught eight passes for 106 yards and played for offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who was hired this year for the same role with the Vikings.

The Vikings will wrap up their offseason program next week with the three-day mandatory minicamp at Winter Park.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Timberwolves have again hired Sidney Lowe as an assistant coach for the staff being assembled by Flip Saunders.  The Wolves announced today the addition of Lowe, who will coach with Saunders for the fourth time. Lowe had two previous stints under Saunders in Minnesota and also once in Detroit.

Lowe's final season as an NBA player was 1989-90 with the Timberwolves in their first year as a franchise, and he served as their head coach for a season and a half until 1994. He was a television analyst for the team for a year. More recently, Lowe was an assistant for Utah the last three seasons. Before that, he was the head coach at his alma mater N.C. State for five years.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The champagne is on ice once again, and so are the Kings and the Rangers.  They'll be playing Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals at Staples Center tonight.  That gives the Kings an opportunity to skate Cup around in front of their home fans. They failed to win it in a sweep Wednesday night in New York when Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist stood on his head in making 40 saves to force the series back to LA.

The Kings will tie a single-season record by playing in their 26th post-season game. They're hoping not to break that mark with a Game 6 back in New York.  Los Angeles is trying to earn their second Stanley Cup win in three seasons.

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) - The NASCAR haulers have pulled into Michigan International Speedway for a weekend of racing. Qualifying for Sunday's Sprint Cup race is scheduled for today on the two-mile oval.  Jeff Gordon tops the standings with a 16-point lead over Matt Kenseth heading into the weekend. Greg Biffle has won two races in a row at the Michigan track.
