TODAY'S THOUGHT

God wants to see prayers that are filled with genuine praise and thanksgiving for what He has done in the past. He wants our hearts to be filled with awe and gratitude for His blessings. He wants us to set up memorials in our hearts testifying to the provisions He has given us.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Teddy Bridgewater says he "definitely" believes he'll play for the Minnesota Vikings this season, after returning to practice for the first time in almost 14 months.

Bridgewater spoke to reporters today for the first time since the beginning of training camp. He was cleared to rejoin the team Wednesday on the field. He dislocated his left knee and tore multiple ligaments in a non-contact drill less than two weeks before the 2016 season began.

The 24-year-old quarterback said his knee was feeling fine the day after his first practice, though he wasn't taking any hits. Bridgewater will be brought along slowly, realizing the return to the field this week was only one of many steps toward playing in a game again.

CHICAGO (AP) - The Cubs finally broke through for a win against the Dodgers in their NL Championship Series. Now they have to contend with ace Clayton Kershaw in Game 5 tonight. Kershaw limited Chicago to two runs over five innings in Game 1, a 5-2 win for Los Angeles. It's a tough matchup for the Cubs, who are averaging 2.7 runs over nine postseason games - including a 9-8 win over Washington in NLDS Game 5.

Manager Joe Maddon will have work to do managing Chicago's bullpen. Closer Wade Davis held on for a six-out save in Game 4, but that means the Cubs will have to look elsewhere for the late innings in Game 5. That's problematic, since Chicago's other relievers allowed eight runs over the first three games. Of course, Maddon will have to stay in the game long enough to make those calls - he was ejected Wednesday for the second time in the series.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Heading into the first meeting of the year with the Chiefs at home tonight, Derek Carr and the Oakland Raiders are searching for a win of any kind after losing four straight games for the first time in three years.

Little has gone right the past month for the Raiders, who have failed to score more than 17 points or gain more than 300 yards in any game during their skid. That has turned a team expected to be a Super Bowl contender into a last-place squad.

No one played better than the Chiefs the first five games as quarterback Alex Smith led a dynamic offense that got a big boost from game-breaking rookie running back Kareem Hunt .

That ended last week when Kansas City was held to 6 yards on 16 plays in the first half and lost to Pittsburgh 19-13.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Now that the NFL is providing tickets for an entire youth football team from Minneapolis to attend the Super Bowl, it's also giving away 500 more free tickets to the game.

The Super Bowl Ticket Giveaway will be a nationwide initiative. Beginning this week and continuing throughout the season, fans will be surprised during tailgates, or at stadiums, and even at their homes. More than half of the tickets (256) will be given out by the NFL teams. An additional 64 will be distributed by the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominees.

The remaining 180 tickets will be awarded at league events such as fan forums, youth football clinics, and through social media and other channels, the NFL says.
