BISMARCK, ND -  For the first time since 1997 the Bismarck Governors have won the State Class AA Legion Baseball Tournament.  The Governors upended Fargo Post 2, 7-4 and 9-5 at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown to sweep the championship round. Bismarck fell to Post 2 - the defending state champion - 4-3 on Saturday, but went on to win three straight games to wrap up a 5-1 showing in Jamestown.  The next stop for the Governors (40-9) is the Central Plains Regional tournament, which begins Thursday in Fargo.

WAHPETON, ND - A four-run fourth inning propelled Wahpeton to a 4-2 victory over Velva in the championship game of the state Class A American Legion Baseball Tournament on Sunday.

All four runs scored with two out as Wahpeton took advantage of some wildness by Velva pitcher Eli Luna. Luna hit a batter and walked two in the inning, which was highlighted by back-to-back two-run singles by Ethan Meide and Seth Meide.

Brock Lingen went the distance on the mound for Wahpeton, which finished unbeaten in the state tournament. Lingen scattered seven hits, allowing two earned runs and walking three while striking out four.

LANGDON, ND - Carrington outslugged Thompson for an 18-6, six-inning victory in the championship game of the state Class B American Legion baseball tournament on Sunday.  Tournament MVP Pat Freeman went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, scored three runs and drove in a pair as Carrington outhit Thompson 20-14 in the contest.  Easton Paeper, Brady Smith and Connor Wendel each had three hits in the championship game, which capped an unbeaten tournament run by Carrington.

Wahpeton will play Carrington in a one-game playoff tomorrow at 6 pm in Wahpeton.  Winner will move on to the Division II Central Plains Regional Tournament in Milbank, SD beginning Thursday.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - Former Williston State College hockey coach Seamus (SHAY'-muhs) Gregory says seven former Tetons are following him to Northland College.  Gregory resigned from Williston State in early June to take the head coaching position at Northland, an NCAA Division III school in Wisconsin. Williston State competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association, where it has won back-to-back national championships.
The Williston Herald reports that goalie Tyler Ampe; forwards Michael Berens, Darius Cole, Logan Millican and Parker Tomzcyk; and defensemen Karson Kuntz and Kyle Kuntz all plan to continue their college careers at Northland.
Three other Tetons plan to play for Division III Southern Maine: forwards Trevor Hunt and Dario Torres and defenseman Cole Sonstebo.

FARGO, ND - Former North Dakota State quarterback Brock Jensen has re-signed with the Miami Dolphins.  Jensen, who first signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent in May, was cut last week.  The Dolphins brought back Jensen after an injury to veteran backup quarterback Matt Moore.  Miami has its preseason opener on Friday at the Atlanta Falcons.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame and have his jersey retired next year.
Favre writes on his official website that it will be an honor to have his name placed among others such Bart Starr, Curly Lambeau, Ray Nitschke and Vince Lombardi, to name a few.  Favre says it wouldn't be possible if not for the foresight of former general manager Ron Wolf, who he says is the greatest GM in the history of the NFL.
It's been six years since Favre 'retired' from the Packers, tried to return, then went on to play for the New York Jets and rival Minnesota Vikings.
